The story is about a country that gives us plenty of feelings from disappointment, prejudice to amazing surprise and overwhelmed passion.
That was the first time I challenged my limits and stepped out of comfort zone in my life…
That was the story of friendship which helped me to understand more about the quote “if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together
Nepal, Truthly Cinderella
Nepal had never been on my travel bucket list before as in my impression, this is a country with poverty and mournful earthquakes. Trekking was never my taste because I am a typical Vietnamese who is afraid of getting sunburned. I was inspired by the wonderful photos of Hoang Yen and her lover about this country, then our team decided to choose Nepal will be our next destination within a second.
After the trip, if someone asked what had attracted us in Nepal, our first answer would be The Princess Cinderella. Your will, your sympathy and your love of nature will be the pure water that cleanses away all the dust and laments on her beautiful face and body. And your romantic soul is the gorgeous dress that she wears.
Kathmandu – our first stop was probably one of the most poverty capital city in the world. Nevertheless, we were impressed by the automatically visa system at the airport and a warm welcome smile of the customs officers who were on duty at midnight. When the daylight came, Kathmandu exposed all of its shabbiness. The whole city is buried with garbage and filled with slums. We were too optimistic to pretend those garbage are “organic rubbish” but actually Nepal is not an industrial country so that there is no chemical effectiveness. Everywhere, in the city, even small narrows were full of debris which look like they had a big earthquake yesterday. There were houses which were under construction but never completed. The people here build a house based on their income and this makes the house could not complete if they cannot earn money. When we keep walking along the city seeing infrastructure here makes us wonder “where did all the money the government put into?”. We could not find the answer but we just consider Nepal is listed one of the most corruption countries out of 175 in the world with a number of 131. This reminds me those words of Toc Den once she first time put her foot on Kathmandu and on the bumpy roads to Nagarkot which is “Nepali specialties – riding cars like riding horses”
Next day, after a long trip 9 hours on a bus with 200 km to reach Pokhara, it was a nightmare then we all decided to take flight on the way back instead of a bus because it takes only 20 minutes. However, in order to make it up for our suffering from Kathmandu, after a long night, we woke up in front of the mountainous Himalaya which appeared clearly under the blue sky. I looked at the snowy Himalaya through the hotel window in the middle of Pokhara that brought a sudden surprised.
6 days trek up to an elevation of 3,200m/10,498ft, nearly 118,000 steps and a total 90km length
With Beginning/Intermediate level trekkers like us, Poon Hill was a perfect choice with a wide variety of landscapes and the level of difficulty can be adjust our fitness. 6 days trek to the altitude of 3,200m/10498ft, with roughly 118,000 steps and a total length nearly 90km from Nayapul through Tikhedhunga-Ghoreapani to Poon Hill route, then from Poon Hill back to Tadapani-Chomrong-Jhinudanda. Different routes will be a great record that at the end of the trek, our group could not imagine how we did it that far.
Before this trip, I questioned myself why people love climbing/trekking even in difficult conditions and how they could find the joy from making such a hardship journey. However, after this trip, I realized when we quietly counted every single step on the trail, we dismiss all the connection with the world outside, then we step out our "comfort zone". When it seems to reach the limits, we find our inner peace an opportunity to understand ourself and open our heart to feel and beyond the natural beauty and the magic of life.
That is when you find yourself becoming stronger with inner peace, feeling at ease to face all the difficulties in life, watching our footsteps that slowly walk and listening to the sound of every breath and all of that will bring us gradually to the final destination. That is when we appreciate the beauty of every single tree branch, little grasses and the value of the simplest things that sometimes we just seem to forget.
That is after all the endless challenging, there will be the happiness. That is when you thought that this journey is an easy trip but unexpected obstacles appear in front of you. That is when we appreciate all friends whom accompany us and give encouragements at the right time. Thank for those people who stand beside us during the journey; our loved ones at home who silently support us to live our lives in our own ways. We have learnt a lot of lessons in this journey.
A Full of Suprise Journey
I will not go deeply into describing the beautiful scenery of the road that we has passed. Because there are no words, no camera can describe the majesty of nature and the touching feeling deep inside the soul of us. And like the princess Cinderella, when she was stripped of charcoal on the outside, each of us gives her a different dress with our own feeling. When you look at the photos in this album, you may find some pictures of the mountains in the Northwest of Vietnam with terraced fields and bucketwheat flowers. Snow-covered Alpes or stone house Swiss villages, you can also find yourself in the mysterious and enchanted Amazon jungle. We only know that this journey has taken us from one surprise to another with wonderful nature, beautiful people and specially with ourselves.
